At Eurécole Bilingual Primary School: A Week to Celebrate Children’s Rights and Human Rights

At Eurécole, a bilingual primary school in Paris, the week dedicated to Children’s Rights and Human Rights provided our students with a unique opportunity for learning and meaningful engagement. Through inspiring encounters, creative projects, and group reflections, the CM1 and CM2 students explored core values such as solidarity, resilience, and cultural diversity, while gaining a deeper understanding of the challenges children face around the world.

This enriching week exemplified Eurécole’s commitment to nurturing open-minded, globally aware citizens who are attuned to social and humanitarian issues.

A Special Workshop to Honor Human Rights Day

On December 10, 2024, to mark Human Rights Day, Eurécole students took part in an inspiring workshop led by a parent, the founder of the association BoldN Society. This organization promotes the integration of Human Rights principles into the national education curriculum.

During the workshop, students engaged in interactive discussions about the 30 fundamental human rights and collaborated on a collective video where they confidently expressed these rights with passion and conviction.

A Creative Project: A Multilingual Film Celebrating Children’s Rights

One of the highlights of the week was the creation of a multilingual film to commemorate Universal Children’s Day. This project, led by the CM1 class with the support of a parent who is a professional filmmaker, brought the voices of our students to the forefront.

In the film, they presented articles from the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child in over 40 languages, showcasing the rich cultural and linguistic diversity within our school community. This initiative not only fostered creativity but also strengthened the students’ understanding of and commitment to fundamental rights.

Presentations on Inspiring Figures: Children Who Change the World

In parallel, CM1 and CM2 students delivered presentations on children who have made a significant impact and changed the world. Figures such as Malala Yousafzai, Greta Thunberg, Jordan Casey (one of the world’s youngest tech entrepreneurs), and other inspiring young leaders were featured. These projects empowered students to see the potential of their own actions, no matter their age, and to recognize the difference they can make in their communities.

To conclude the activity, the students had the special privilege of receiving a video message from Jordan Casey himself, congratulating them on their hard work and interest in his inspiring journey.

An Inspiring Encounter with Lucas Lepage

Adventurer and photographer Lucas Lepage captivated our students with stories from his five-year journey across 40 countries and visits to 37 schools. Through his photographs displayed in the school hall and his engaging narratives, students gained insight into the educational and cultural realities of children worldwide.

He shared stories of traditions in Cambodian schools, where students sing the national anthem each morning, and of the hardships faced by schools near Lake Victoria, often struggling with limited resources. Lucas also highlighted the impact of small acts of solidarity, such as redistributing school supplies in Morocco.

His experiences inspired our students, reminding them that every action counts and that cultural diversity is a treasure to cherish and respect
