Teaching French as a Foreign Language (FLE) in our International Middle School Eurécole 

The teaching of French as a Foreign Language (FLE) in Eurécole international Middle School allows to meet the diverse needs of our international students (from 22 different nationalities in 2024). Our FLE program is designed to provide a personalized learning path for each student. 

Levels of Instruction 

  • Beginner FLE: For students who are just starting to learn French. 
  • Advanced FLE: For students with a basic knowledge of French who want to improve their skills. 

Pedagogical Approach 

  • Initial Assessment: Each student is assessed by an initial evaluation to determine their level of French. This evaluation allows teachers to establish a personalized educational plan. 
  • Flexible Teaching: The teaching is adaptable depending on the student’s specific needs (up to 4 hours and 15 minutes of FLE each Wednesday morning). 
  • Separate Group Classes: During regular French classes, non-French-speaking students are placed in FLE groups for an appropriate learning, while French-speaking students follow the standard curriculum. 
  • Linguistic Immersion: Except for language courses, all other courses are taught in French, offering students a fully immersive environment. 

Schedule and Structure 

  • FLE Sessions: Students can have up to 9 hours of FLE per week, divided between intensive sessions and tutoring during regular classes. 
  • Personalized Educational Support: Small groups can be formed during French classes to provide personalized support to FLE students. 
  • Gradual Progression: The learning of French is gradually intensified, allowing students to effectively strengthen their linguistic skills. 

Methodology 

  • Tailor-Made Approach: Our approach is fully personalized and adapted to each student’s individual needs to ensure their success. 
  • Use of Various Tools: Role-playing, fun activities, and thematic projects are integrated in the teaching of FLE to make it engaging and relevant. 

Long-Term Objectives 

  • Acquisition of Strong Skills: A student who follows the FLE program for 4 years at Eurécole will achieve a very good level of French, ready to integrate into a French-speaking environment. 
  • Personalized Pathway: Each student receives instruction tailored to their needs, maximizing their linguistic and academic potential.

FR - Bonjour Sofía, quand es-tu arrivée à Eurécole ?
EN – Hello Sofia, when did you join Eurécole? 

FR - “Je suis arrivée à Eurécole en 6ème, en septembre 2019”. 

EN – “I joined Eurécole in 6th grade, in September 2019.” 

FR - Qu’est-ce qui t’a le plus plu dans tes cours de Français et FLE ?
EN – What did you enjoy most about your French and FLE courses? 

FR – “Ce que j’ai apprécié dans les cours de FLE, c’étaient les textes que nous devions rédiger sur divers sujets et qui incluaient différents types de rédactions, tels que des textes argumentatifs, des histoires ou des lettres. Quant aux cours de français, j’ai beaucoup aimé les analyses rigoureuses, qui comprenaient la compréhension et les analyses grammaticales de divers textes”. 

EN – “What I enjoyed in FLE classes were the texts we had to write on various topics, which included different types of writing, such as argumentative texts, stories, or letters. As for the French classes, I really liked the rigorous analyses, which involved comprehension and grammatical analysis of various texts.” 

FR – Comment décrirais-tu tes années passées à Eurécole ?
EN – How would you describe your years at Eurécole? 

FR – “Mes années à Eurécole étaient mémorables. Les professeurs ainsi que les cours m’ont aidée à découvrir ma passion pour l’apprentissage. Eurécole a nourri et stimulé ma curiosité. En termes simples, cela m’a appris à aimer apprendre, car les professeurs enseignent avec une telle passion, un tel dévouement et une telle attention aux détails, qu’il est impossible de ne pas récompenser leurs efforts avec le même enthousiasme. Eurécole cultive une ambiance confortable et apaisante parmi les élèves, favorisant des liens forts et authentiques qui perdurent même après notre départ. Un autre avantage d’Eurécole est sa diversité. L’école accueille des étudiants du monde entier, ce qui permet aux élèves de devenir plus conscients des différentes cultures. Cette diversité illustre l’ouverture sur le monde qu’offre Eurécole.”

EN – “My years at Eurécole were memorable. The teachers and the courses helped me discover my passion for learning. Eurécole nurtured and stimulated my curiosity. It allowed me to love learning because the teachers teach with such passion dedication that it is impossible not to reciprocate their efforts with the same enthusiasm. Eurécole cultivates a comfortable and soothing atmosphere among students, fostering strong and authentic bonds that last even after our time at Eurécole ends.
